Wall Street employment climbs year-on-year

20 August 2011
Wall Street employment climbs year-on-yearFinance jobs in the US could be climbing year-on-year if new Wall Street employment figures are anything to go by.

According to new statistics from the New York State Department of Labor, the financial district had a total of 168,300 workers during the month of July, representing a 0.8 per cent rise when compared with the same month in 2010, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Additionally, the headcount in the securities dealing and investment banking sector rose by 0.5 per cent to 43,600 during the month of July.

However, despite the year-on-year rise, the figures revealed a 0.2 per cent employment drop as a whole in the finance industry from June to July.

Meanwhile, New York State Department of Labor statistics revealed some 14,100 jobs were created in the private sector last month, with 57 per cent of the 188,100 posts that were lost during the worldwide economic meltdown now recouped.

Unemployment rates in New York now stand at eight per cent.
