US IT sector continues to generate new jobs
20 October 2011
Return to index
The US information technology (
IT
) sector is continuing to generate new jobs, according to the results of a new study.
Research undertaken by TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of
IT
services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers, revealed employment in the sector increased by 5,800 during the month of September, with 4.05 million people now working in
IT jobs
in the US.
Representing a year-on-year increase of 2.5 per cent, the number of jobs available in
IT
rose by 0.14 per cent from August - growing for the 20th consecutive month.
Mark Roberts, chief executive officer of TechServe Alliance, said: "Absent a significant deterioration in the macroeconomic environment, we remain bullish on continued growth in
IT
employment for the foreseeable future."
According to recent figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics' Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment Summary, the number of people without a job was lower in 262 of the 372 metropolitan areas in the US - and unchanged in 26 areas - during the month of August.
