US IT jobs 'remain stable in 2009'
04 October 2010
Return to index
The market for
IT jobs
in the US remained stable in the US during 2009 compared with the previous year, official figures show.
Latest data from the US Census Bureau indicates that 3.4 million individuals worked in the sector last year, remaining at almost the same level as during 2008, according to Computerworld.
The news source reports that technology and math-related employment was steady over the 12 months, despite an overall drop in jobs in the country of nearly six million.
In the annual American Community Survey, the number of people working in
IT
in the US was shown to have dipped from 3.475 million in 2008, based on a margin of error of around 31,000.
Those states that saw increases in employment within the
industry
included Colorado (up 2.2 per cent), North Carolina (1.8 per cent) and Kentucky (1.8 per cent).
Meanwhile, Andy Doyles of BCS, the Chartered Institute for
IT
in the UK recently told the 360°
IT
event that "forward-thinking" organizations are investing in skills and people in the field.
