US IT jobs market continues to outstrip overall growth
09 December 2011
Return to index
The US
IT
(information technology) jobs market is continuing to outstrip overall economic growth in the nation, according to a new report.
TechServe Alliance's monthly index of
IT jobs
revealed the number of employment opportunities in the sector as a whole rose by more than 7,100 to 4.06 million during the month of November, marking a rise of over 84,000 from the same time in 2010.
However, in comparison to these positive figures, the overall job growth in the US economy was only 0.1 per cent during November.
Mark Roberts, chief executive officer of TechServe Alliance, said: "Despite a mixed report on the overall jobs market, demand for
IT
professionals remains strong. I anticipate
IT
employment will surpass its all-time high set back in June 2008."
According to the latest Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment Summary from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, unemployment rates were lower during the month of October in 281 of the 372 metropolitan areas in the US than they were the previous year.
