US IT employment climbs during January
09 February 2011
Return to index
January 2011 saw gains made in
IT
employment within the US, a new report reveals.
Data from TechServe Alliance indicates the number of positions in the sector rose by 0.2 points during the month to 3,997,400.
The sector is poised to top the four million jobs mark, with more than 6,000 roles created in January, following strong employment figures during 2010.
Those seeking
IT jobs
in the US may be interested to learn the 0.2 per cent rise in such posts compared with a 0.03 per cent rise in overall non-farm employment during the same period.
Over the 12 months to January 2011,
IT
employment climbed by 4.5 per cent, compared with a 0.8 per cent expansion in total roles in the same period.
"With increased demand, we are again hearing of shortages of qualified
IT
professionals in certain skill sets," TechServe Alliance chief executive Mark Roberts remarked.
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the US recently showed there was a 36,000 gain in non-farm payroll employment in the US during January this year.
