US adds 30k technology jobs in 2010
17 September 2010
Return to index
An estimated 30,200 new positions have been added to the US technology sector during the first six months of 2010.
This is according to a new report from
industry
body TechAmerica, which revealed that the sector has expanded this year although employment still remains below levels seen before the recession.
By examining data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the organization suggested that the highest number of new positions has been in technology services over the period from January to June, with employment in this area jumping by 29,700.
Further hirings have also been witnessed in software services (14,200) and technology manufacturing (9,100), while other fields have seen a decline in job numbers.
Phil Bond, TechAmerica's chief executive, stated: "From its position embedded in every other
industry
, technology remains the best hope for driving robust recovery across the economy."
Those seeking
IT jobs
in the US may also be interested to note that the rate of job openings in the country increased during July this year by 2.3 per cent to three million, with a 30 per cent year-on-year rise seen in the field.
