The UK still has problems with skills shortages, according to one expert.

Despite rising unemployment levels in the country, Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) chief executive Kevin Green stated that some sectors have talent gaps.

He cited skills shortages for HR professionals, engineers, chefs and IT analysts as particular challenges facing companies in Britain.

The REC chief described this situation as "one of the great problems and the contradictions of our labor market at the moment", adding that there are 2.5 million people out of work, while there are employers "struggling to find skills and capability".

Speaking to the BBC On the Money podcast, Mr Green pointed out that the private businesses are still creating paid roles, although the rate of hiring is not strong enough to offset public sector jobs cuts.

A recent report from the REC has indicated that employers are choosing to weather the current economic storm by using flexible contingent labor to meet their talent needs.
