UK finance employment levels 'recover from downturn'

UK finance employment levels 'recover from downturn'The number of people working in finance jobs in the UK is now similar to that recorded before the recession hit.

According to Bloomberg, the sector is showing signs of recovering from the downturn, which was promoted by the 2008 financial markets crisis.

Hiring in the industry has been robust and the news source notes that Bank of Scotland Group has more employees working in its securities operation than it did in 2007.

In addition the article points out that employee numbers at Goldman Sachs in London have almost returned to levels seen three years ago and 1,800 people were appointed by Barclays Capital last year.

In addition, it reveals such recruitment activity is pushing up the numbers of legal and accounting jobs in the UK.

Treasury minister Mark Hoban recently stated: "We want London to remain a global financial center, and one that will continue to flourish and grow because of the employment it brings."

UK banks paid out an million of pounds in bonuses this year, despite government restrictions, as the sector continued to recover from the downturn.
