Strong BPO growth forecast by India
11 June 2010
Return to index
The Indian market for business process outsourcing (BPO) will expand over the next decade to outstrip the country's IT sector.
According to a prediction by the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), the addressable market from the sector has a strong future, Information Week reports.
The report suggests the BPO industry will increase to reach between $890 billion and $980 billion in 2020, tripling in size from its current $200 billion, those seeking IT jobs in India may be interested to learn.
"New sectors such as healthcare, new markets like BRIC, Japan and Germany and new service lines (process transformation for productivity improvement) will be the key drivers," Som Mittal, president of Nasscom, is quoted by the news source as saying.
BPO refers to the assumption of the responsibility for processes and operational activities by a third party service provider at the behest of an organization, often in a bid to generate cost savings and enhance efficiencies.
