Singapore employment rate increases further

Singapore employment rate increases furtherThe proportion of people in work in Singapore increased during 2010, reaching a new high.

According to the Ministry of Manpower, strong economic recovery had helped to push up the number of people in work across age groups, with particular growth in jobs among women.

In addition, incomes have increased this year, with resident labor force participation standing at 66.2 per cent in mid-2010, up from 65.4 per cent in 2009.

The Workforce 2010 report also reveals there was a 3.1 per cent increase in the number of residents in positions during the year to June, slightly higher than a three per cent rise recorded in 2009.

A total of 2.05 million residents were thought to be in jobs in the month in question, comprising 56 per cent men and 44 per cent women.

Meanwhile, recent Ministry of Manpower statistics revealed total employment in Singapore increased during the third quarter of 2010 by 24,100 compared with the previous three months.
