Pune 'is India's leading Tier I employment center'

Pune 'is India's leading Tier I employment center'Located in the state of Maharashtra in the west of India, Pune has been named as the leading Tier II employment center in the country.

The city took the title for the first quarter of the 2010-11 fiscal year, as it was responsible for 19.5 per cent of positions created in the category during the period between April and June.

Within the same timeframe, the data from the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) showed Lucknow was second among Tier II cities in terms of employment over the three months, accounting for 14.3 per cent of new jobs, followed by Pondicherry with 10.5 per cent of roles.

The highest recruiting sectors in Pune during the quarter were IT, banking, IT-enabled services, education and automotive, while those in Lucknow were education, banking, fast moving consumer goods, insurance and IT-enabled services.

Among Tier III cities, Ranchi was cited as the highest job producing center, with 16.8 per cent of new positions, followed by Mangalore (12.6 per cent) and Mysore (11.08 per cent).

Meanwhile, a recent Assocham study suggested that absenteeism rates could be cut by between two and three per cent by introducing regular medical check-ups for employees.
