Progressive organizations 'investing in IT staff'
02 October 2010
Return to index
The most "forward-thinking" organizations are investing in information technology (
IT
) skills and people in order to protect and maximize their human capital, it has been suggested.
Andy Doyle of BCS, the Chartered Institute for
IT
, claimed that approaches to
IT
cost-cutting and staff reduction measures that are "fairly pragmatic" should be challenged, as investment in staff should be protected alongside assets such as hardware and software.
The account management and
sales
manager at the body, previously known as the British Computer Society, was addressing delegates at the 360°
IT
event in London and he suggested that firms should be helped to identify the right people with the rights skills and competences for particular roles.
Those seeking
IT jobs
in the UK may also be interested to learn that a recent poll by magazine CIO found that more than half of chief information officers and senior
IT
executives expect to increase budgets during the coming year, while only 16 per cent anticipate making cuts.
