Offshore growth in Africa may generate further jobs

11 May 2010
Offshore growth in Africa may generate further jobsThe rise of Africa as a destination for offshoring operations may result in further employment on the continent.

According to CIO UK, it is now one of the fastest-growing destinations for such activity in the world and is expected to continue to expand.

An article by PA Consulting Group head of IT sourcing Alex Blues suggests that although Africa is unlikely to outstrip China and India in terms of outsourcing, many nations have become increasingly popular.

He quotes the AT Kearney Global Services Location Index, which revealed Egypt has become the sixth most popular outsourcing country, while Ghana has risen 12 places to number 15 and Tunisia is in 17th place, up from 26.

Mr Blues notes the continent can be split into Northern and Saharan Africa, West and East Africa, and Southern Africa, regions which offer different attributes.

Outsourcing is becoming increasingly popular with companies and organizations seeking to reduce costs and cut their carbon footprints.
