Indian employment continues to rise
20 October 2010
Return to index
In the wake of the economic downturn, employment in India is continuing to increase.
The latest survey covers the period between April and June 2010, showing it was the fourth consecutive quarter to record an upward trend in jobs.
According to the Labour Bureau and Ministry of Labour and Employment figures, the number of people in work in India rose by 162,000 from March to June 2010 across all sectors.
Meanwhile, the highest increase in roles was among business process outsourcing and
IT jobs
in India over the period in question, with the number of employment opportunities in the sector climbing by 129,000.
Additional increases of 51,000 positions were seen in the automotive
industry
, 45,000 in the metal sector, 21,000 in leather production and 4,000 in gems and jewelry, while declines were recorded in the textile and transport sectors.
Elsewhere, a study by Ma Foi Randstad recently indicated that India is the leading nation for ambition, with a higher proportion of workers prepared to move to another employer in order to further their career than any other country.
