Increase in Wall Street hiring last monthA rise in recruitment on Wall Street in the US was recorded in March 2011, it has been reported.

According to figures released by the New York State Department of Labor, there was a 5.1 per cent increase in hiring year-on-year and the rate remained relatively stable from February.

The statistics, reported by the Wall Street Journal, may be of interest to those seeking finance jobs in the US, as they showed an increase in investment banking jobs.

Financial activities recorded the fourth highest rise in roles of any sector in New York State, with 9,400 posts created over the year to March 2011.

Overall the area saw a gain of 5,000 private sector jobs during the month in question, a 0.1 point rise from February.

This was assisted by strong year-on-year growth in educational and health services, which added a total of 36,800 opportunities for work, while the professional and business services labor force grew by 29,400.

Unemployment in New York State stood at a two-year low of eight per cent at the end of March 2011.
