Improvements in UK IT sector could generate new jobs
29 September 2011
Return to index
Those seeking
IT jobs
in the UK could see growing demand for their services after the country made the top ten in a new set of rankings.
The
IT
Industry
Competitiveness Index, produced by the Business Software Alliance (BSA), listed the US as the best-performing country in this field.
However, Europe also had a strong showing, with Finland, Sweden and the UK all managing to place in the top ten.
Ireland and Australia tied for eight spot, while the Netherlands and Israel made joint tenth.
Commenting on the findings, BSA president and chief executive officer Robert Holleyman emphasized the important role investment has to play in the sector.
"It is abundantly clear from this year's
IT
Industry
Competitiveness Index that investing in the fundamentals of technology innovation will pay huge dividends," he said.
The UK achieved a score of 68.1, hitting fifth place, which marks an improvement on last year, when the country only managed to climb to sixth position.
