Green workforce forecast to reach 1m in India
16 August 2011
Return to index
India could have a green workforce of one million people within the next two years, it has been predicted.
According to the Economic Times, the sector is growing rapidly, offering roles in a range of fields, including
engineering
, architecture,
IT
,
construction
and consultancy.
GreenSpaces promoter Kamal Meattle, chief executive of the Paharpur Business Centre & Software Technology Incubator Park, explained: "We will need thousands of skilled people to build a bridge to our new carbon-free world."
He added that training and development is needed to ensure there are enough people with the experience to meet future levels of demand.
The one million figure was suggested by Unison International managing director Udit Mittal, who declared the scope of the green
industry
is vast.
India's financial services sector is also creating new jobs, with the Hindustan Times reporting that a number of new banking groups are looking to enter the
industry
during the coming months.
