16 March 2010
Return to index
New data for the Indian jobs market project the creation of 27.88 million manufacturing roles in the country by 2015.
According to the figures from the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham), industrial output growth will help to drive the jobs market up by 87.37 million new posts during the next five years.
The Emerging Future Jobs report, unveiled by Assocham president Dr Swati Piramal, estimates the production sector will be responsible for 32 per cent of the employment market, while agriculture will see a slight decline.
Meanwhile, trade is expected to generate 24.24 million new jobs and construction to be responsible for a further 15.13 million.
Sharp growth will be witnessed by 2015 in IT jobs in India and related sectors, as well as in the growing financial services markets, the study revealed.
Data from the Indian government recently showed over 500,000 jobs were created in the country during the third quarter of 2009.
